Meet the Sophisticated, Strategist and Survivor Marquita Goodluck
My name is Marquita Goodluck. I am a published author, writer, content strategist, and Breast Cancer survivor. I am a proud Morgan State University Alum. I have always been a writer in some capacity, but I became a published author, once I started writing books that touched on delicate issues. I am the author of I’ll Be There Every Day, Just In A Different Kind Of Way!, Bk’s Mommy Has Breast Cancer!, Cry, Learn, Adjust, Fight, and Repeat!
An interesting fact about me is that I am an Empath -which is at the core foundation of all my writing. I believe that writing heals. So, I use my empathic ability to write stories that can heal the soul.
In honor of Black History Month, name one black woman you look up to or influenced you and why?
I believe that I am impacted and influenced by Madame C.J. Walker on a daily basis. I have always loved being a woman in business and her ability to revolutionize haircare at a time when there were so many obstacles, is astonishing. Being a woman who has faced many obstacles that has impeded her success in business or the corporate world, I am empowered by Madame C.J. Walker’s strength and motivation to keep on going. By reflecting on her accomplishments, I believe that all things are possible with hard work and dedication.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love being able to connect with other Breast Cancer survivors, share my story, and give them some hope.
What keeps you motivated during challenging times?
My children. My ultimate goal is to set a positive standard and create a legacy that they can be proud of and carry on. When there are hard times, their energy, support, and admiration for me, keeps me going and keeps me focused.
If you could give your younger self advice what would it be?
Always step up to a challenge! Jump out of your comfort zone every chance you get!
What is your favorite quote by a Black woman?
“I got my start by giving myself a start.” - Madame C.J. Walker
